Available lightning detections and storm movement are checked against saved area and selected alert behavior.

Push can arrive after the app closes. The free version sends up to one approaching-storm alert a day; Premium sends more. Delivery still depends on internet, permission, device state, and operating-system push service.
Free: up to 50 km. Premium: up to 300 km. Metric presets: 10, 16, 50 km; imperial: 6, 10, 30 miles. Your current plan maximum is also available.
More early awareness and more notifications. Useful when planning outdoor work, sport, or travel.

Open Lightning Tracker, allow location and notification access, save the area you want monitored, and choose an alert radius. The app can then send a push alert when a storm is moving toward that saved area, including after the app is closed. The free version sends up to one such alert a day; Premium also alerts on lightning detected inside the radius and sends more alerts a day.
How fast are lightning alerts?
Notification timing depends on satellite or network detection, processing, internet delivery, device permissions, operating-system delivery, and battery settings. Treat alerts as situational awareness, never as a guaranteed warning before a strike.
What lightning alert radius should I use?
The minimum radius is 5 km. Free monitoring reaches 50 km; Premium reaches 300 km. Metric presets are 10, 16, and 50 km, while imperial presets are 6, 10, and 30 miles; the current plan maximum is also available. Any thunder is already a shelter signal, regardless of radius.
Is a lightning alert an official weather warning?
No. A Lightning Tracker notification reports detected or approaching activity based on available data. Follow official national and local weather warnings, emergency alerts, venue procedures, and instructions from authorities.
